Every so often, we have the uncontrollable urge to brag about our amazing students. They really are rockstars…it’s undeniable! It’s only fair we let you in on these up-and-coming musicians before the rest of the world finds them. Consider this your inside track.
So, with all of that said, meet Isaac! Isaac has seemingly known who he “is” since he was a young buck back when he first started at Rockdale many moons ago. You may have noticed him dressed in a 3-piece suit, or as Steve Zissou from Life Aquatic at our showcases, but he’s so much more than a well-dressed performer with a great sense of humor.
In the past few years Isaac has taken up guitar and produced his debut album of some killer instrumental tracks over quarantine. We love being a part of Isaac’s growth as a musician, creative and all around great dude!
We asked Isaac some questions about how he got his start, the music that inspires him, and his experience at Rockdale.
What instrument do you play and how long have you been a part of the Rockdale community?
I play the drums at Rockdale and I have been playing at the studio for around five years.
Who are your favorite musicians and artists that you draw inspiration from?
When I first started out, I really took inspiration from Stevie Wonder’s Album Songs in the Key of Life, a band named Superchunk, and a band named Arcade Fire. Some albums I like now are London Calling by the Clash, Hunky Dory by David Bowie, and Kind of Blue by Miles Davis.
What do you like best about being a student at Rockdale?
One of the things I like about learning at Rockdale is the amount of flexibility you can have with what you want to play and who you want to play with.
For example, you can learn pretty much any genre. You can choose to have a private lesson or play in a Rock Band or even do Summer Camp. The possibilities are endless!
What are your future goals as a musician/performer?
My future goals are learning different genres like Jazz and get a degree in Jazz Drumming.
Also, I want to learn more about mixing tracks and making tunes, which is perfect for Rockdale Recording Studio.
Isaac just released his first album, which you can find on Youtube. Keep an eye on this one…he’s destined for big things!
