Rockdale teachers are the real deal—we make sure of it! We select our teachers here carefully (think CIA application process but harder), making sure that our team meets three key criteria:
Must absolutely shred on the instrument they teach
Must be excellent motivators
Must be able to work patiently with students of all ages.
Today, we’re chatting with Jenny, our new voice, guitar, bass, and songwriting teacher!
We talked with her about how she got her start in music, her teaching philosophy, and what she’s listening to lately.
What was your motivation for becoming a teacher?
I teach the way I would want to be taught, and I’m passionate about helping students achieve their goals and rather than mine.
How long have you been performing?
I was in my first musical at the age of 8, and continued with musical theatre as well as choir and voice lessons throughout my entire education. I studied musical theatre at UArts in Philly, and released my first single back in October. I write and record original indie pop & folk music.
What advice would you give to a new music student?
Get creative with making yourself a disciplined practice routine, and work on material that you love and are passionate about. Your teacher may have aspirations for you, but your goals should always come first and foremost.
What’s your favorite thing about teaching at Rockdale?
The space is so cool, and the teachers and students are even cooler! Having lived in cities for the past 8 years, it’s refreshing to have a creative space out in the woods.
What have you been listening to lately?
H.E.R., Jazmine Sullivan, Sales, Passion Pit, Ella Mai, WILLOW, THE ANXIETY, and Kim Petras.
What’s a fun fact we might be surprised to learn about you?
I’m the oldest of triplets! My dad grew up on a farm in Asturias, Spain and my mom in Gary, Indiana.
Any recent projects you’d like to share?
My debut single “Higher Self” is available on all streaming platforms, with a dope modern dance music video on YouTube!
