Rockdale teachers are the real deal—we make sure of it! We select our teachers here carefully (think CIA application process but harder), making sure that our team meets three key criteria:
Another former Rockdaler makes their triumphant return to teaching at the studio! Nathaniel recently graduated from Drexel University with a degree in Recording Arts and Music Production.
We talked with him about how he got his start in music, his teaching philosophy, and what he’s listening to lately.
What was your motivation for becoming a teacher?
I wouldn’t be where I am without the long list of music teachers that helped me get to where I am today. Now, I want to help inspire the next generation of young musicians.
How long have you been performing?
I’ve been playing guitar for over 13 years, drums for 11, and bass, production and recording for the last 4 years. I got my start at Makin’ Music classes when I was a toddler and I loved it so much that my mom signed me up for private guitar lessons.
What advice would you give to a new music student?
Stick with it! The first few months learning any new skill are by far the most important. Everyone’s timeline is different, but if you put in the work the results will come and practice will become less of a chore and more rewarding.
What’s your favorite thing about teaching at Rockdale?
I love how talented and unique each of the staff members are. I already know a few, but I can’t wait to meet the rest and start making some cool music!
What’s a fun fact we might be surprised to learn about you?
I’m an avid sports fan and played club soccer at Drexel University.
What have you been listening to lately?
Messy – Olivia Dean
Introducing – Cecil Alexander
Covered in Hether – Hether
Any recent projects you’d like to share?
I currently play guitar, produce, co-write, record and mix songs for my good friend Karlia, an R&B artist based out of Philadelphia. Catch us at a gig with our 9-piece band (including a full horn section) and stream her music! New EP coming this fall.
