Summertime - The Right Time for Music Lessons!

As I sit on the back porch writing this blog on my laptop in 90-degree weather, it sure seems as though Summer is already here. In a couple of weeks, hot and humid temperatures will be the norm and air conditioner units will be working through the day and night. Summer vacations, the pool, and days spent outside take up a lot of our new found free time; but what to do with the rest of the days to make sure you get the most out of these three free months.

Sure the kids have some Summer reading and Math packets, but most kids I know wait until the last week of Summer to finish their work (not recommended). When I was in school, I looked at the Summer as a time to put more energy into music and I would practice some days for hours at a time. I grew up playing with a lot of talented musicians and we would push each other to try harder songs and learn new techniques as we locked ourselves in the basement away from the sweltering Summer heat.

Another benefit of music education during break is that is keeps young minds active. Would you rather have your child glued to the T.V. or XBOX (update for 2020 – YouTube or TikTok) or playing their piano or guitar? I think we all know the answer to that one! When school work and after school sports aren’t in the picture, it becomes much easier to grasp harder musical concepts and theory without the distraction of algebra or long division.

At Rockdale, our flexible scheduling during the Summer allows for you to continue lessons at the best time that is suitable for you. We have camps running from 9am-3pm daily so the studio is open for lessons earlier than during the school year. Take a lesson first thing in the morning, then go to the pool. Have your cake and eat it too.

Contact your teacher to see what availability they have during the Summer or call the studio at 610-459-4096 or email [email protected] if you want to start your music education off right this Summer!
