Student Spotlight: Evie

Every so often, we have the uncontrollable urge to brag about our amazing students. They really are rockstars…it’s undeniable! It’s only fair we let you in on these up-and-coming musicians before the rest of the world finds them. Consider this your inside track.

Evie is quickly becoming our secret weapon at the studio! She has been a mainstay at Rockdale for what seems like forever and her talent and passion for music continues to grow every day. Evie has been a tremendous help as a “roadie” for our Summer camps and Kidzrock classes and loves working with younger musicians to help them along their own musical journey.

Evie is creative, driven and a complete joy to be around. Lessons and classes with Evie in the room are more fun. Period. Exclamation point. End of story.

We asked Evie some questions about the instruments she plays, her musical inspiration, and her future aspirations. Let’s go!

What instruments do you take lessons for at the studio and how long have you been a part of the Rockdale Music community?

I have been taking lessons for flute for almost 6 years, and guitar and bass for almost 5. I’ve been in the rock band program for almost 5 years as well. So I’ve been at Rockdale almost 6 years! Recently, I’ve been helping out with the Kidzrock class too.

Who are your favorite musicians and artists that you draw inspiration from?

Tom Petty was the main musician who made me want to try music, and Running Down a Dream was the first song I ever played and sang. I also really like Metallica and Flyleaf.

What do you like best about being a student at Rockdale?

The best thing about being a musician at Rockdale is getting to choose what I learn and having teachers who can point me towards new opportunities. Recently my flute teacher Stephen had me audition for Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (we’re still waiting for results though).

What are your future goals as a musician/performer?

My future goal is to go to college for classical flute performance, and right now I’m interested in pit performance in theater after that.
